Well it was February 28, a fantastic day we will remember and talk about for a long time to come. The day went off without a hitch and the honeymoon was a blast. As mentioned, we went to Hawai’i and San Francisco. Will definitely go back in the not too distant future.

For now you can view the photos on my Flickr pages, both the pro ones by DS Studio and ones taken by friends.

Flash v JavaScript

There are obvious pro’s and cons to both but the main reason to go with Flash is the ability to provide a backend (very nice one) in which to manage the content of the gallery. the JavaScript option would make the development of the website a lot easier but the end result of the Flash option much more pretty and a nicer user experience, not to mention the cross browser compatibilities.

San Francisco via Hawai'i

Hawai’i was everything we expected, though the weather and high rain fall season meant we spent much less time on the beach then we were hoping for. None the less we made the most of the time and did something different every day. Highlights would be The Polynesian Cultural Center, Waikiki Shops and Restaurants, Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay. Hanauma Bay being particularly spectacular, we were to go back but the weather was not all that favorable.

San Francisco and San Jose was an absolutely beautiful place. We did the typical sight seeing locations and on the top of the list was the Seafood Chowder in a Sourdough Bowl at Fisherman’s Wharf. Was everything I was hoping it was!

Came back with about 1400 photos, culled them down to around 800. If you’re interested you can take a look, they’re on Flickr!

Cooliris: Cool image browsing

If you mix some RSS ideas with a nice interface and fluid interaction, you end up with Cooliris. Think of it as ‘RSS by pictures’. That’s pretty much how I got to know it. Really, it’s much more than that, particularly if you a fan of Flickr and enjoy getting your daily dose of feeds (RSS or other).

My first exposure to this was on the iPhone via the Cooliris for iPhone app. I must admit, I was a little lost as to its use and how to make the most of it. However it was not long after installing the Cooliris application on the PC that I began to see its power.

The key here is in two things:

How you navigate Cooliris, and
How you can use it from within your browser.

Imagine being able to browse all your Flickr favorites in the one window, or stumbling upon a website of photos and not having to click on every photo to browse them all. You can view them all in the same window, backwards and forwards and with one click view the image within the website it is stored on.

Now I could really go on for pages about this app but I think its best if you just try it and find out for yourself. So move on over to the Cooliris website and have some fun!

The Australian Learning, Training and Education Centre opened last week. Located at Level 5/150 Queen Street, Melbourne, I was asked to joint the staff and students for the opening ceremony and take some photos. Find out more about ALTEC.

Every now and then you come across an app, tool or something that enhances your day to day online life. This has certainly been the case this week when I discovered Xoopit.

Firefox extension Xoopit turns Gmail into a robust, searchable media management tool for every piece of media that comes through your inbox. By indexing every attachment as well as every link to photos and videos from sites like Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube, Xoopit allows you to easily search for and find any picture or video and view it from directly inside Gmail.

Lulu Studio

Lulu has recently enhanced their photo book publishing facility. The new publication wizard is a snap and makes publishing that special album that little bit easier. With a nice, clean interface and easy navigation, Lulu photo books are certainly one of the easiest ways to create the special gift for that memorable moment.
