Renovation to the rescue
Well it is finally here! After spending 9 weeks non-stop renovating, we have completed the inside of the house and it is time to move in. I say inside as the outside can wait till later, after the move. It has certainly been a lot of work and many lessons learned.
The results are terrific and after all has been said and done I thought I would create my list of top ten tips for those thinking of doing the same.
Top ten tips for renovators:
- Be prepared to live at Bunnings
- You will use more paint then you think, don’t apply it thinly
- Leave the polishing and cleaning till just before you move in
- Take photos, you will appreciate it more when you look back at them
- Be prepared for the consequences if you’re going to knock down a wall
- Cover every surface, you will get paint on things you did not want it on
- Make sure there is only one project manager
- Make lists every day of the things you need
- Make sure you have plenty of rags, Bunnings sells a ‘bag of rags’ for $5
- Measure everything, not everything will be square
Now when we started out we knew what we wanted to do, but as the weeks passed and we pulled things apart, we began to see the original ideas expand and change. If you’re making a mess, make it a good one and only do it once! Fortunately for us, Bunnings is only a few hundred meters up the road. Things would have been a lot harder if that was not the case.
There is one other tip that comes to mind – Keep the beer cold!
Bunnings does not endorse nor are they a paid affiliate of this website.
